The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, has noted with concern two separate incidents of domestic violence which claimed lives in Siyabuswa and Elukwatini over the past weekend.
In the first incident, the Police in Siyabuswa received a complaint of domestic violence on Saturday, 04 October 2026 at about 02:00. Upon arrival at the scene, they found a 44-year-old male lying in a pool of blood with stab wounds to the upper body. It is alleged that he had an argument with his 40-year-old wife, who then stabbed him with a sharp object. He was declared dead on the scene. The female suspect was arrested and appeared at the Siyabuswa Magistrate’s Court on 06 October 2026.
In the second incident, Police in Elukwatini responded to a shooting incident at Nhlazatshe No. 4, on Saturday, 04 October 2026 at about 04:15. Upon arrival, they found a female sitting in a blue Ford Fiesta, with blood on her upper body, and a male lying on the ground in a pool of blood. Both showed no signs of life and were declared dead by Emergency Medical Services.
The deceased were identied as Police Constable attached to the Middelburg Public Order Policing and her female friend. Preliminary investigation suggests that the Constable allegedly shot and killed the female friend before turning the firearm on himself. Police recovered a service pistol and a magazine with some live rounds, next to the deceased.
The case was referred to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for further investigation.
