Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the tragic death of a provincial traffic officer who was fatally struck in a hit-and-run incident on the N4 toll road near Middelburg early on Tuesday morning (14 October 2025).
Reports indicate that the 49-year-old Principal Provincial Inspector was on duty directing a light delivery vehicle (LDV) towing a trailer towards the Middelburg Weighbridge when the driver allegedly failed to stop and hit him. The officer was declared dead at the scene.
MEC Macie described the incident as a devastating loss to the department and extended sympathies to the officer’s family, friends, and colleagues. He further urged traffic officers to remain alert while on duty, warning that some motorists continue to ignore road safety regulations.
