The City of Mbombela Executive Mayor Hon: Cllr Sibongile Makhushe Mazibuko is doing the official handover of the City of Mbombela and C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF) Project Titled: “Identification and Assessment of Hybrid Flood Alleviation Programme, assessing options in the Entokozweni,Tekwane and Msogwaba catchment areas which will be rehabilitated to address climate change challenges.
The team of experts evaluated hybrid solutions blending infrastructure and nature-based strategies to curb flood risks from urbanization and environmental shifts.
This programme is a project funded by C40 Cities Finance Facility and backed by GIZ, the initiative delivers technical studies like hydro-climatic change analysis and vulnerability assessments for Msogwaba and Tekwane North. It promotes wetland rehab, river restoration, and sustainable drainage for resilient communities.
So far the city mayor revealed that this project estimated from R600 million to R800 million which is the biggest project that will contribute a lot in fighting unemployment around the area.
The handover event is ongoing now Wednesday 23 April 2026 at The Capital Mbombela.
