This comes after the community members of Thekwane North took to the streets over water shortages, they blocked roads with stones, trucks and different objects to show their frustrations. The community has been experiencing water scarcity issues for weeks, and that pushed them to demand action from the authorities. The situation was tense this morning, public transport operators were forced to use alternative roads to transport passengers.
According to chairperson of Topstar Taxi Association John Mavundla says their members were not part of the strike and they were also affected and were forced to take a long route to town, Mbombela. He says they were forced to take the Kanyamazane route instead of using Thekwane road which cost them too much.
According to community members the issue of water is a serious issue which is not attended for a very long time.
