Parents and learners of Chief Funwako have demonstrated their frustrations through a strike. They say its been so long since the Mpumalanga Department of Education has promised them mobile classes as the current situation is getting worse, classes are overcrowded.
SGB Chairperson JB Masuku says they are requesting 10 mobile classes from the department of education to make it easier for learners and teachers to continue with their daily routine, he says teachers are facing challenges to do their work because of overcrowding and learners are failing subjects because they don’t get enough attention from their teachers, you will find one class with more than 90 learners instead of 40 as per the department’s mandate, so that it will be easy for teaching and learning.
Masuku says they requested the two primary schools in that area to join them on strike because they are the ones who feed that secondary when their kids finish Grade 7.
Today 16 April 2026 they have sent delegates to the department’s office to send the message to the authorities. To be continued…
