A 12 year old pupil from Mjindini Secondary School in Barberton is fighting for his life at Barberton Hospital.
This comes after he was seriously injured by a 16 year old student.
It is believed that a fight started inside a classroom in the presence of a teacher and the fight intensified and moved outside. It is at that point where an innocent child was accidentally and badly assaulted with a very sharp object.
The family of the victim is still seeking answers from the School, while their child is fighting for his life at the Hospital.
According to the family they only received a phone call informing them about the incident. The family went to the school and took the child to the hospital. The school did not provide any support: did not accompany or visit the child in Hospital.
The family says Barberton Police refused to open a case, citing that the suspect is underage. According to Mpumalanga Police spokes person lieutenant colonel Jabu Ndubane this is not true, a case has to be opened in the presence of parents and its up to the court to decide on what is going to happen going forward.
The family is seeking the intervention of the Independence Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), saying that they are disappointed by the actions Barberton Police for delaying justice for their child.
